Description
Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) is a white salt that is soluble in water (insoluble in ethanol) and forms a strongly alkaline solution. It can be prepared by the absorbent reaction of potassium hydroxide with carbon dioxide, and it has a high moisture-absorbing capacity. As the dipotassium salt of carbonic acid, potassium carbonate serves as a fertiliser, a flame retardant, and a catalyst.
